The Glide Ice Skating Ribbon

Weather permitting we are planning on "The Glide" as an activity and attraction this winter at Winter Park.  The .8 mile walking trail will be transformed into the .8 mile skating ribbon which will have 8 solar lights to light up the skating trail and while creating a fun experience and activity for families and kids.  We encourage families and kids to explore the skating ribbon in groups to enjoy the serenity and beauty of nature.

Cross Country Ski Trail = Skating Ribbon trail

The Project will transform the existing 0.83-mile cross-country ski trail into a skating ribbon/trail.  Minimal excavating work is expected.  With success, future trail expansion would add additional trails initiating off the original loop. 

The current ice-skating rink will benefit from this project as well, improving the ice surface quality. All the equipment that would be used to construct and maintain the ice ribbon will be used to maintain the existing skating rink, thereby improving the ice surface quality. 

Finally, as part of skate-ability improvements to the park, there would be ‘ice sidewalks’ added to create connection between the warming hut, pavilion, Skate Trail and restrooms.

The town is purchasing a Zamboni and 500 gal water tank for the creation of " The Glide Skating Ribbon" in part with a $5,000 grant from the Boulder Junction Community Foundation and other funds from the Town Room Tax account.  The hope is that this will be a draw for tourism in Boulder Junction during the winter months!
