Boulder Junction Winter Park Adds Power Broom to Enhance Ice Quality and Support Volunteers

Boulder Junction, WI — The Town of Boulder Junction is pleased to announce the addition of a new piece of equipment that will significantly improve ice quality at the Glide Skating Ribbon and rink at Boulder Junction Winter Park, while also reducing the physical demands placed on community volunteers.

Town Chairman Dennis Reuss explained that the decision was driven by the overwhelming popularity of the Glide and the need to invest in equipment that supports safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. The Town recently acquired a Kubota tractor equipped with a power broom, a tool that will greatly enhance snow removal and ice preparation.

“This new equipment is an important investment in the success of the Winter Park,” said Reuss. “With the continued growth in usage of the Glide, it made sense for the Town to step up and provide tools that help deliver a higher-quality experience for park users while also protecting our volunteers.”

The Kubota tractor with power broom now complements the Town’s existing ice maintenance equipment, which includes a New Holland tractor paired with a Zamboni 200 resurfacer, as well as the park’s water tanker system. Together, these tools allow crews to respond more quickly to changing weather conditions and maintain a consistent skating surface throughout the season.

Steve Weber, Park Board member and coordinator for Winter Park volunteers, noted that this winter has presented different challenges than the Glide’s inaugural season.

“During our first year, we experienced relatively light snowfall,” Weber said. “This winter has been very different, with snowfall nearly doubling the amount of time required for ice maintenance. The addition of the power broom allows us to remove more snow from the ice surface after plowing, which gets the Zamboni on the ice sooner and shortens the overall grooming process.”

These improvements reflect the Town’s continued commitment to quality, safety, and responsible stewardship of public amenities, while recognizing the critical role volunteers play in operating Boulder Junction Winter Park.

Boulder Junction Winter Park, including the Glide Skating Ribbon and rink, is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with hours subject to change due to weather, maintenance, or public safety considerations. Visitors are encouraged to check for updates before arriving.
