"The Glide" Ice Skating Ribbon

"The Glide" began its 2nd year this winter at Winter Park on December 20th, 2025. Last year, the .83 mile walking trail was transformed into the .83 mile skating ribbon which has 8 solar lights to light up the skating trail in the evenings while creating a fun experience and activity for families and kids. We encourage families and kids to explore this skating ribbon for themselves!

Boulder Junction Winter Park, including Ice Rink and "The Glide" are open to the public daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.  However, hours may change at any time, with or without notice due to weather conditions, maintenance activities, or public safety concerns.  Portions of the Winter Park may be temporarily closed when conditions warrant.  Visitors are expected to observe all posted signage, barriers and instructions from town staff or volunteers.  Checking current conditions before you visit is strongly recommended.

Cross Country Ski Trail = Skating Ribbon trail

The Glide Project has transformed the existing 0.83-mile cross-country ski trail into a skating ribbon/trail last winter. Recently this past summer the trail was leveled making it more enjoyable and safer. With continued success, future trail expansion could add additional trails initiating off the original loop.

The current ice-skating rink benefited from this ice skating ribbon as well, improving the ice surface quality. All the equipment that was used to construct and maintain the ice ribbon is now being used to maintain the existing skating rink, thereby improving the ice surface quality.

Finally, as part of skate-ability improvements to the park, there would be ‘ice sidewalks’ added to create connection between the warming hut, pavilion, Skate Trail and restrooms.

The town did purchase a Zamboni and 500 gal water tank for the creation of "The Glide Skating Ribbon" in part with a $5,000 grant from the Boulder Junction Community Foundation and other funds from the Town Room Tax account. The initial hope was that this would be a draw for tourism in Boulder Junction during the winter months for families, individuals or groups to enjoy the serenity and beauty of nature. The public acceptance and excitement for the Glide was an overwhelming success!

Our thank you to the Park Board and many volunteers who support this full time operation and have made this a reality in Boulder Junction!
